NINNA Journalist, Damayanti Sinaga, Wins BI Journalism Writing Competition

NINNA.ID-Although still less than a year old, NINNA.ID has already proven itself to have skilled journalists. This isn’t just an internal compliment—it’s a recognition acknowledged by Bank Indonesia Sibolga. One of NINNA.ID's journalists, Damayanti Sinaga, secured 2nd place in a writing competition organized by Bank Indonesia Sibolga last June.

The competition, themed "Innovation and Effective Communication Strategies to Enhance Acceptance and Literacy of the Undigitized Population on Digital Payment Systems," attracted several seasoned journalists from the Lake Toba region. In the end, three winners were selected.

  • 2nd placeDamayanti Sinaga (NINNA.ID)
  • 3rd placeJhonny WP Simatupang (Medanmerdeka.com)

The panel of judges included representatives from PWI Sumut, the University of North Sumatra (USU), and Bank Indonesia.

Damayanti Sinaga (fourth from the left in the photo) expressed that one of her main motivations for participating in the competition was the prize. However, she was also driven by a deeper reason: a desire to update and upgrade her knowledge on current trends and information.

"The competition’s theme—digital payment—felt particularly relevant. Recently, we’ve witnessed massive changes, with many industries shifting from conventional to digital systems. For instance, news used to be delivered through newspapers, but now, with nearly everyone owning a smartphone and having internet access, media has migrated to digital platforms," Damayanti shared.

Additionally, she saw the competition as an opportunity to prove that NINNA.ID, despite being a new player in online journalism, has strong and capable journalists.

"I also wanted to challenge myself. I know that there are many outstanding journalists in the Lake Toba region, especially from mainstream media. But I also believe that not everyone dares to step forward and compete. I’m grateful to Bank Indonesia and the entire NINNA.ID editorial team for their incredible support—even though I’m still relatively new to NINNA.ID," she added.

The winners of Bank Indonesia Sibolga’s writing competition were announced on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at the Creative Hub Pantai Indah Situngkir, Samosir Regency.
